Josh Smith
Josh is a gamer to the core. He loves board, video, parlor, yard, party, and card games. He loves learning the rules and being a part of structured mental competition. The gamification of life is interesting to him and that makes him a great fit for Motivating Systems’ reward programs. His experience with customer service and technology is an asset in MoSys Customer Support, where he helps teachers to help students by increasing positive behaviors through gamification.
Josh gravitates toward teaching and training roles, digging into mastering intricate systems and sharing his knowledge with others. In his previous life as a lead and trainer for Barnes & Noble, he enjoyed teaching fellow employees the tricks and tips to help things run as smoothly as possible. He’s also worked with multiple local businesses, taking on the roles of Excel expert for inventory and finance tracking at a salon, database researcher to find grants to keep a genealogy non-profit project funded, and database migrator and maintainer.
Josh was born and raised in the Evansville area with a brief stint as a resident of Terre Haute to attend Rose-Hulman, where he attained his B.S. in Computer Science. He helped form and performed with Evansville’s first Jam Skate team (think “modern-day roller disco”) and his favorite downtime activities include couch time with his partner Holly and his cat Tesla, throwing cards around in a match of Hearthstone, and visiting National Parks. He enjoys creating escape rooms and his current favorite board games include Citadels, Wingspan, and Imhotep: The Duel. He also loves cooking (but not baking!), crafting beverages (especially coffee), reading, and watching movies – particularly sci-fi, fantasy, and horror films.
